First Day of the A Hundred Ideas Summit at the College of Science and Technology

The Royal University of Bhutan commenced its first Annual Faculty Meet, titled the “A Hundred Ideas Summit,” at the College of Science and Technology. The three-day programme brought together about 500 faculty members from 11 colleges with the objective of generating 100 practical ideas to guide the future transformation of the university through collaboration, innovation, and cross-disciplinary dialogue.

Day One began with a formal inaugural session that welcomed delegates and set the direction of the summit. In the keynote address, the Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan, Dasho Chewang Rinzin, emphasised the need for the university to take a proactive role in leading transformation amid changing academic and technological contexts. He highlighted leadership as a shared responsibility, stressed the importance of excellence as a daily practice, and encouraged faculty to reflect critically on teaching, curriculum relevance, and research culture. He further noted that the value of the summit would be measured by how ideas are implemented.

The President of the College of Science and Technology, Dr Cheki Dorji, described the meet as a historic platform that has brought faculty from all RUB colleges together for collective dialogue. He underscored that universities are shaped by ideas, values, and people, and encouraged participants to engage openly and contribute constructively, drawing strength from institutional diversity.Following the inaugural session and a collective photo session, the programme committee briefed participants on the framework and guidelines for idea pitching. In the post-lunch session, faculty members reconvened in their assigned groups to continue structured discussions focused on problem identification and thematic alignment.
